How to Use Your Laptop as a Second Monitor for Your Desktop [Windows 10]

To use your laptop as a second monitor for your Windows 10 desktop, you can use either a wired or wireless connection.

Wired connection:

  1. Connect your laptop to your desktop using an HDMI, VGA, or DisplayPort cable.
  2. Press Windows key + P on your desktop keyboard.
  3. Select Extend from the options list.
  4. On your laptop, press Windows key + P and select Project to another screen.
  5. Select your desktop from the list of available devices.

Wireless connection:

  1. On your laptop, go to Settings > System > Projecting to this PC.
  2. Under Projecting to this PC, make sure the Make this PC discoverable toggle is turned on.
  3. On your desktop, press Windows key + P and select Connect to a wireless display.
  4. Select your laptop from the list of available devices.

Once your laptop is connected to your desktop as a second monitor, you can arrange your displays however you like. To do this, go to Settings > System > Display on your desktop. Under Multiple displays, you can choose to Extend your displays, Duplicate your displays, or Show only on one.

You can also change the resolution and orientation of each display. To do this, click on the display you want to change and then adjust the settings under Resolution and Orientation.

Once you are happy with the arrangement of your displays, click Apply to save your changes.

Here are some additional tips for using your laptop as a second monitor:

  • If you are using a wired connection, make sure that your laptop and desktop are both turned on before you connect the cable.
  • If you are using a wireless connection, make sure that your laptop and desktop are both connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
